Hi! My name is Sara and I blog over at The Hinton Hook-Up. I'm a newlywed from South Texas working in media sales and marketing. This blog is my little brew of life and lessons learned as a newlywed, young business professional, and woman of faith.      There you have it!  I am so glad that I had the opportunity to work with these ladies, and I will obviously keep reading their sweet blogs.  That being said, I am so excited for May and my new round of sponsors.

Weekend Snippets

I am so sorry that I have been MIA (from posting and comments) for the past few days.  If you notice that I’m creeping on your older posts, you’ll have to forgive me…it’s been a busy few days.  Thursday was my birthday – 21, and yesterday Keith and I went to his fraternity social (the last one I’ll attend as a student)!  As my way of apologizing, I’m going to overload you with pictures…and very little text.

Before birthday dinner – Keith’s first sushi experience!

I know it’s blurry, but I had to share this one – Della (who is two) will eat a whole order of edamame…the right way, popping the beans out of the pod like a big girl!

…it was not Della’s birthday…but of course she gets a candle!

I loooooved my dress, and to make the navy blue more springy, I did my nails and toes pink!

Just in case you wondered, I had very little to do with my hair.  A friend of mine curled it with her straightener (which I cannot do), and then I smashed it up on the side of my head and put a ton of bobby pins in it.

That’s all I have for now…I’ll post my second sponsor feature tomorrow.  Also, if you are looking for a free sponsor spot shoot me an email (see About or Advertise).  I cannot believe that April is almost over! I am finished with my last semester of classes on Tuesday, and then it’s summer – wow.  Get ready for a whirlwind of posting – I already have two little crafties to share!

Tuesday 10

I am aware that I never do “beauty posts.”  This is probably because I am not a make-up girl; my hair looks the same every day, and I am 100% okay with that.  Nevertheless, I saw this post on Ten Feet Off Beale, and it looked so cute that I thought I would join in.
I’m linking up with Lena at Mom 2 Memphis and Ruby
for Tuesday 10 – Favorite Beauty Products.  Here goes…
Suave Professionals Volumizing Shampoo
This stuff is amazing.  It makes my super fine hair look bouncy without getting that slimy build-up other shampoos leave.
Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser
I don’t have the greatest skin, but I have noticed significant improvement since I started using this.  It keeps my face clear of breakouts without drying it out.
Olay ProX Scrubby Thing
Where to begin?  I love my little scrubby.  The bristles are soft, so I don’t feel like I’m scratching my face off, and it makes my face so soft and glowy.
Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer
I had never used moisturizer until I bought this after noticing a few dry patches (on my cheekbones).  It is so light, and there is no weird scent or sliminess.
Eyelash Curler
I have been using one of these since I started wearing make-up…if I have on make-up, I curled my eyelashes.  It gives that extra, wide-eyed pop, and I love it.
Maybelline The Falsies Mascara
It is my (not so) secret dream to go to the store and buy every single kind of mascara – I love the stuff.  Until I fulfill that dream, I’ll be sticking with this.  It’s lightweight and doesn’t flake off…and makes my eyelashes look super fluffy.
Wet n Wild Color Icon Brow & Eye Liner Pencil
I only use Black Black.  So cheap and I can use it like a crayon (wild and dark) on a bad day or skinny and fancy on a good day – been using it since high school.
Wet n Wild Color Icon Blush
Pearlescent Pink – this is the perfect pink.  It has a touch of shimmer, but isn’t gaudy or cakey at all.  The picture doesn’t do it justice…it’s very rosy.
Maybelline
To be honest I don’t know the exact kind of lipstick I use…this is pretty similar.  The pearly finish is not weird or shiny – just pretty.  I have a mauve color now.  It’s a rosy, pinky color I love.  See it in action here.
Revlon Top Speed – Fire
The perfect shade of red!  It is not nearly as dark as it looks in the picture.  It’s just red red.  I wear it all year around…it’s my signature color.
This was kind of a long post – oh well.  These are all the things I love.  I use most of them daily (unless I’m not wearing make-up…which is pretty frequent these days).  Make sure you stop by the link up and see the other ladies’ picks!  Also...these are all pretty inexpensive, but they work really well for me.  I am not looking to spend a ton of money on something that gets washed right down the drain every day.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

May flowers bring...(the actual joke says pilgrims – haha!) new sponsors!  As most of you know, I have been accepting monthly sponsors for the past few months, and I have really enjoyed it.  I hope you all got a chance to meet the first round of April sponsors – they are so great!  I’ll be back later this week to introduce the rest of my sponsors for a (not so) sneak peek, check out the right side bar.
If  you are interested in sponsoring Cupcakes and Candy Canes for the month of May please send me an email (contact info found on my About page).  All spots are free with a swap and include a guest post or giveaway.  I will accept ads from blogs or shops.  Full information can be found on the Advertise page, but I thought I would make it a little simpler with a direct post.
Also, I am almost done with school, so I hope y’all are all prepared for a whirlwind summer full of crafties, recipes, and lots of wedding thoughts.  This is my last summer as a college student, and everything still feels so tenuous – that’s a lot to write about!
I hope your week is off to a great start.  Today is my last day with my kindergarteners, and I will really miss them, but I have learned so much this semester, and I can’t wait to student teach (after a long summer of course)!  I’ll fill you in on my lead teacher day later this week – it’s springtime themed!

Versatile Blogger Award

Happy Weekend!  I’m just dropping in to give a huge thank you to Melissa at Grin and Barrett for nominating me for the Versatile Blogger Award.  I love blog awards – it is the most encouraging thing to know that others are reading (and liking) your blog.  The award is simple…and so fun.

Here is how the Versatile Blogger Award works:
1. Nominate 15 Fellow Bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award
2. Add an image of the Versatile Blogger Award
3. Thank the blogger who nominated you in a post with a link to their site.
4. Share 7 completely random facts about yourself.
5. Include this set of rules.
6. Inform each nominated blogger of their nomination.

Facts about Me:
1. Favorite food?  Tomatoes.
2. I drink a Coke every day…because I get a headache if I don’t (but I try my best to only have one).
3. I am graduating in December (one semester early) with a degree in Early Childhood Education.
4. It is one of my biggest goals to make a quilt.
5. I cannot do hair…mine looks the exact same every single day…and because it’s kind of related, I always wanted red hair (auburn really…not carrot).
6. I do not have a green thumb…but I really wish I did.
7. Over half of one of my front teeth is a filling (I’m getting a crown this summer I think)…because I fainted face first on hardwood floor…it’s the strangest thing that’s ever happened to me.

Here are my nominees:

Thanks again Melissa!  To all of you nominated ladies: there is absolutely no pressure to post facts or pass along the award.  I genuinely love each of your blogs, and I think y’all are all fabulous!  It would be nice though to let your readers know about the award and Cupcakes and Candy Canes.

I Know and I Don’t–No. 12

Just a few little tidbits before I leap right into the twelfth I Know and I Don’t (…which is three months…wow) – first, time is just drip-dropping by so quickly right now.  I only have a week and a couple of days left of school!  Also, I am definitely ordering my purse today, and I couldn’t be more excited!  Aaaand, if you’re in the Memphis area and are looking to have pictures made, let me recommend Oh Snappy Day Photography.  Jamie just recently took some pictures of my niece, and I am in love with them!  Keith and I are seriously considering having her do some engagement pictures for us – her photos are incredible, and her rates are so great.

I know my hair is not awful (like I used to think it was).
I don’t know how I’m going to wear it for Keith’s fraternity social.

I know it’s silly to keep my nails done if I’m working in day care.
I don’t know why I really want to!

I know I can finally start thinking about real wedding planning this summer.
I don’t know why it can’t come sooner!

I know Keith is going to be such a great nurse.
I don’t know why there are soooooo many hoops to jump through.

I know dreams are just nonsense reconstructions of the thoughts bopping around in my head.
I don’t know where some of those thoughts came from (green lasers, having to boat to a restaurant, cops…wow).

I know I’ve seen everrrrry  episode of all the sitcoms I watch during the day.
I don’t know how they’re still funny – but they are!

I know I’m going to turn this into a linky…
I don’t know when…maybe for the 20th.

Happy Weekend!  I have a feeling the next week is going to go by in turbo speed.  I’ll be turning in all of my assignments, finishing half of my exams, aaaaaaand turning 21 (next Thursday)!
